tire sculpture!

The other day my mom and I were driving home from the World Trade Center, when I saw this unbelievable sculpture in front of a tire shop! It was made out of spray painted tires, with a kids bicycle on the top!

When I looked at the sculpture, I began to think about how art is everywhere in our world today and in everything that we see. The simplest objects can be turned into art before our eyes!

vena cava inspirations

Madison and I take sewing classes together and I just finished my first skirt! I've made 3 dresses with our teacher and an unsuccessful shirt on my own, but I never wear any of my clothes because I feel uncomfortable if I don't LOVE them. My inspiration came from this Vena Cava dress, which I adore!!! It fits really well so I wanted to replicate it, and eventually it ended up becoming a skirt. I think the American Indian print of the fabric works well with the skirt because Vena Cava uses such unusual prints. The zipper is my favorite part because it definitely brings the skirt together (literally).

Story, Madison, and I were eating lunch Sunday afternoon and they made me pose by myself in the restaurant.... it was kind of awkward.

Fun Fact: The zipper I used is actually a double sided, heavy, jacket zipper. My sewing teacher clamped some of the teeth off of the zipper so the glider wouldn't fall off because it was 24 inches and we only needed about 9 inches.

My inspiration!

vibrant colors!

Color is EVERYWHERE in Morocco!

My Kitchen!!!

Look similar? Not exactly, but I had a BALL making all of the natural dyes. It was for a school project. I had to dye cloth like they would in the 19th century.

She walked into the amber lit room, came up to the crimson and gold table set with crystalline glasses. Elizabeth, wearing a beautiful sculptured oyster colored dress that billowed at the bottom grabbed everyone’s attention as she entered the room. Elizabeth’s dress shimmered when the golden light passed through the lacy fabric and bounced off an iridescent layer that was pressed with an intricate indigo pattern.

She walked into the lit room, came up to the table set with glasses. Elizabeth, wearing a beautiful sculptured dress that billowed at the bottom grabbed everyone’s attention momentarily as she entered the room. Everyone in the room blended with one another. Shades of white permeated the room.

Can you imagine life without color? I think not!!!

I put my Moroccan pants and music on (that I got in Marrakesh) and played the part!

How To Make Natural Dyes:
  1. Gather all fresh berries and flowers...(beats, raspberries, blackberries, Marigolds, Violas, spinach)
  2. Chop all the berries and the flowers into little pieces.
  3. Then measure the amount of plant material, so there is twice as much water than material.
  4. Boil this mixture, then simmer it, stirring sporadically for about an hour.
  5. After, strain out all of the material, and set the dye off to the side.
  6. Place the fabric into a bath that contains 1 part vinegar and 4 parts water, or 1 part salt and 16 parts water, letting the cloth soak for about an hour.
  7. Remove the fabric from the bath and wring it out throughly.
  8. Now dip the fabric into the dye. If wanted darker, dip more, or if wanted lighter, dip less.
  9. Then with rubber gloves, remove the fabric from the dye.
  10. Wring the fabric, and then hang it up to dry.
  11. Finally, if you want to put it in the laundry, the fabric has to be washed in cold water.

only 3 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the spirit of New Moon, premiering this Friday (I hope everyone has their tickets to the midnight showing...), I would like to take a look back on the year of vamps, best sellers, screaming girls, and most importantly, Robert Pattinson.

So let's be honest.... I am on a one sided, first name basis with Rob. To say the least, the name "Rob" occurs quite regularly in my daily vocabulary, while he hasn't the foggiest idea who I am. Since there are only THREE more days left until the 12:01 premiere of The Twilight: Saga New Moon, I have decided to share an extraordinary Twilight experience I had about a year ago.

As an avid team Edward fan (not that I don't respect team Jacob), I anticipated the event at HotTopic where Rob would be signing autographs (no pictures were allowed...). At 3 am, my twobeautiful and wonderful friends, Adriana Kennington and Hannah Humphrey, waited in the pouring rain at the Galleria with thousands of girls in order to acquire 3 golden tickets to meet Rob Pattinson.

Some of the millions of girls waiting to see ROB were....Britt (2nd from left) and the Cuban Clan (Adriana 2nd from right)!!!

Because I am the biggest freak there is, I was legitimately hyperventilating at the sight of him, but I would like to leave that part out if I ever meet him again (hopefully under different circumstances). I was barely able to utter my name as he waved at me with an expression resembling someone about to be hit by a bus.

Little did I know that my life was over as I knew it from that point on-- unfortunately, I am Robsessed.

So Rob touched this piece of paper.... it hangs in my bathroom....I'm not a creeper

drop TOMS not bombs...

TOMS philosophy is ONE to ONE! When you buy a pair of Toms Shoes, a pair is donated to people in need.
"Lets take a step towards a better tomorrow" - the official TOMS website

Neiman Marcus hosted a party for Toms Shoes. In the packed crowd was Fallon Vaughn (one of my favorite people in the whole wide world), Madison McKinley (yours truly), and Kristie Ramirez (the fashion editor of Texas monthly).

Blake Mycoskie is the founder and Chief Shoe Giver for Toms shoes.
Check this guy out...¡Muy guapo!

This is a piece from my new jewelry line....... La Reina!!

Ping-pong tournament!!! The deal was if someone were to beat Blake, he would buy them a pair of shoes, but if Blake wins, they would have to buy a pair of TOMS!

I usually dominate in ping-pong!!!

Blake with his Aunt Sally Mycoskie and his mom Pam. Well...now... I'm on my way to buy a new pair of TOMS, feeling good because someone in need will benefit from my purchase. The only problem is I demand a rematch, because I always need another pair of shoes. Next time, I won't stare into those aquamarine eyes as much!! I NEVER lose twice.

~ Thought of the day~
Think about all the people in our country and all over the world, who are in need of a pair of shoes. Join me in going one day barefoot to open our eyes to how lucky we are. This is why TOMS is an amazing idea. LETS GET BAREFOOT!!!
