vibrant colors!

Color is EVERYWHERE in Morocco!

My Kitchen!!!

Look similar? Not exactly, but I had a BALL making all of the natural dyes. It was for a school project. I had to dye cloth like they would in the 19th century.

She walked into the amber lit room, came up to the crimson and gold table set with crystalline glasses. Elizabeth, wearing a beautiful sculptured oyster colored dress that billowed at the bottom grabbed everyone’s attention as she entered the room. Elizabeth’s dress shimmered when the golden light passed through the lacy fabric and bounced off an iridescent layer that was pressed with an intricate indigo pattern.

Can you imagine life without color? I think not!!!

I put my Moroccan pants and music on (that I got in Marrakesh) and played the part!

How To Make Natural Dyes:
  1. Gather all fresh berries and flowers...(beats, raspberries, blackberries, Marigolds, Violas, spinach)
  2. Chop all the berries and the flowers into little pieces.
  3. Then measure the amount of plant material, so there is twice as much water than material.
  4. Boil this mixture, then simmer it, stirring sporadically for about an hour.
  5. After, strain out all of the material, and set the dye off to the side.
  6. Place the fabric into a bath that contains 1 part vinegar and 4 parts water, or 1 part salt and 16 parts water, letting the cloth soak for about an hour.
  7. Remove the fabric from the bath and wring it out throughly.
  8. Now dip the fabric into the dye. If wanted darker, dip more, or if wanted lighter, dip less.
  9. Then with rubber gloves, remove the fabric from the dye.
  10. Wring the fabric, and then hang it up to dry.
  11. Finally, if you want to put it in the laundry, the fabric has to be washed in cold water.

Thought of the day:

The best way of life is to be, simply be.

  1. This was your Worlf Run assignment right?? I love this blog! And I completely agree, we have to have color in our lives. It would be so boaring without it.
