DAVID BATES!!!

Kathy Dewald gave me my first art lessons every Tuesday afternoon during my elementary years. I ran into her randomly when I was at the David Bates art show with my mom and my friend Ryan. It was an AMAZING experience with Kathy at the show because she would describe some of the techniques Bates used in his art!

This is David Bates, my friend Ryan, and me at Mr. Bates' art show. Branching out of his comfort zone, Bates' new pieces of art work are unbelievable. I have never seen anything quite like them.

Can I get a photo?

Last weekend during the snow storm, my power went out. So my family stayed the night at the Fairmont Hotel in Downtown. While I was out getting coffee- in the lobby, my dad, met the original McLovin from the movie Superbad. I was super jealous.

"The Roaring 20s"

The 1920s presented a time of extravagance and exploitation of wealth after the dim economy at the end of World War I. The world wanted to enjoy life rather than stress about it. Many did so through an abundance of high fashion clothes, nice cars, and big houses. A movement of flappers sweeped the nation as rebellious women who cut their hair, wore short dresses, and went to bars. These fun loving women set the mode of 20s fashion and are the icons in fashion history!

This purse belonged to my great grandmother Laura Coleman. The painted, metal, mesh suggests that it was from the 20s.

P.S. I miss the snow....

American Winter Wonderland

(Me and my two friends Sawyer (left) and Emily (right) with me in the center wearing my favorite Burberry ear-muffs!)

I was stuck in the biggest snow storm in Washington, D.C. history, since 1898 this weekend. With cold winds and 32 inches of snow, my student council friends and I were stunned. We were in Narnia. Snow so deep that there was hardly a car on the road. We planned on staying Feb 3-7, for a leadership/student conference. But the convention was cancelled, as was our flight home, forcing us to stay another night. Though we had a ton of fun going to what we could-such as the Newseum, the Smithsonian, the Archives, and ESPN Zone, us kids wanted to be warm again.

(A picture I took from my phone of the Washington Monument. We were scheduled a tour but, due to severe weather and cold, it was to our chagrin, cancelled.)

The Berlin Wall in the Newseum (An amazing Museum about the history of News)

I loved getting to see Washington in the winter time. As beautiful as the cherry blossoms are, the snow was almost magical.
